Service Description

Introduction to Esalen® Massage $200 - 8 hours CE Esalen® Massage, developed at the Esalen Institute, is a presence based bodywork practice known for its long flowing strokes, slow rhythmic movements, and whole body integrative focus. In this course you will be introduced to a brief history of the Esalen approach to massage, how to effectively apply the long strokes, and other techniques that form the foundation of the practice. Quality of touch, presence, and self care are at the heart of this work. Our day will consist of exercises to build the group field, brief lectures, demonstrations, and supervised practice, with time for questions and observations. By the end of this course you will have an understanding of the basic elements of Esalen Massage upon which you can build. These elements can be integrated into your massage practice or used alone. ​ Please bring two flat sheets, and wear clothes appropriate for movement. Almond oil and/or jojoba will be provided. You may bring your own unscented oil or lotion if you prefer. Patrick teaches in order to pay forward the gifts he has received and growth he has experienced from safe, skillful touch. Before moving to Washington in 2021, he taught Anatomy & Physiology and Deep Tissue Massage at McKinnon Body Therapy Center in Oakland, CA. He has led Esalen Massage classes and retreats in California, Washington, and Bali, and in the coming year he will also teach in North Carolina and China. He is a member of the faculty at Esalen Institute Massage School in Big Sur and visiting faculty at McKinnon Body Therapy Center. He is also a Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher and enjoys working with anyone who is curious about their embodied experience.
